This is the object I would save if I had to evacuate my house if there was a fire.

The shoes are sitting next to each other like they are in love.

Now one shoe is turned the other way like it is mad at the other shoe.

Three ways to create emotion on a object one way would be the type of lighting that you use. If you use a dark lighting or if you don’t use any lighting at all you just photograph the object the way that it is. Another way to create emotion is how you position the object. What I mean by this is if the object is standing alone, laying on its side, the object is next to something else something like that. My last way that you could show emotion on a object would be the angle you take the picture. By taking the picture at a different angle then you create a type of intensity that is associated with a certain emotion like anger, sadness, happiness, or any other emotion. These are some of the ways that I think that can help show emotion for an object.

The piece that i chose to do my reaction essay on was called “Badge of Honor”. This piece of installation art was done in 1995. This was about a father who was in jail and how he was not their for his son when he needed him the most. Pepon Osorio got his inspiration from when he talked to a group of young people who had grew up without their father because they were in jail. He asked their opinion about going to jail or having somebody important to you in jail and what did they think. Nobody had an opinion on it because they had already felt how it was without having a father. He wanted to do a piece that had to do with growing up without a father presence in your life and how it effected you. In this piece he had a father that was in jail and his son was at home. They talked through video tapes by taping the father then showing it to the son. Pepon would ask the father to tell his son about freedom and what it means to him. Everyday a new conversation was started between the father and son so that they got to know each other better. He also wanted the son to tell him how it felt without having him in his life right now because he was in jail.

The reaction to this piece after I have looked at it and got a chance to understand it I think that it was a brilliant idea. The reason for this is because a lot of young men and young women grow up without their father’s or father figures around. For young women it is easier because they have their mother’s which is someone they can relate to and ask questions to. It is harder for young men because nobody is their for them to help them get through things. They feel like they can’t go to their mother’s because they don’t think that they will understand so they rebel. They start hanging out with the wrong group of people because they are looking for somebody or a group of people that can relate to them and help them out when they don’t know what to do. Some father’s are there but they are not really there . You may see your father everyday but you to don’t really have a connection where you feel like you can go to him and tell him what is on your mind. You feel like you have nobody to talk to or nobody listen to you so you try an find somebody that can relate and listen to you. Sometimes people can end up being the best they can be without a father in their life but it is something deep down inside of you that makes you wish that you had a father and how you can be a better one then yours.

Edward Tufte’s design concepts are used and recognized every where in the world. He is very well known as a person who knows what good and bad data consists of. Some of his main concepts are: (1) “Show Causality” which means not to cover up the information that you want people to see. Not using a lot of bright colors trying to get the attention of the people because they will pay more attention to the colors then the actual data. (2) “Most of what happens in design depends on the Quality, Relevance, and Integrity of the content” which means to think about what you will put with the data before you do it because it could have an affect on how the data is portrayed. Make sure that you use good quality paper, for example, to print your poster. Make sure what ever you put on the poster that it is relevant to what you are talking about and that it supports your data that you are presenting. The integrity of the poster is that it was not just put together the day before it was due but it looks like some time and effort has went into what you want other people to see. (3) “Information for comparison should be put side by side” which means that if you are comparing the sales of McDonald’s to the sales of Burger King then the sales data should be on the same page and not have Burger King sales on a different page. The sales data should be on the same page because that is the only way that the people that are looking at the data will know the difference. If McDonald’s is leading in its sales and you have to keep flipping pages so you can see that you will start to get angry then just stop looking and not care about who is leading in the sales.

         The way that I think they made the animation so well would be by adding a lot of shadows to the characters to give the illusion of the animation moving. Maybe by adding different shadows at different points of the movie you can create the illusion of them moving like real people. I think it is to the lighting that is involved with the movie. Shadows and the lighting will have a lot to do with it. If the shadows are where the animators want them to be then the lights are placed in the correct spot you will think that the animations are moving when the are really only doing one or two basic things. If the animators place a shadow of the main character holding his arm up with something in his hand then add the same shadow in a different spot. Once you add the same shadow in a different spot you can add colorful light and the light will bounce off the shadows to give the affect of the character moving.

I think that the reason why the animators decided to do this film as an animated one was because it would be different from the other animated films. The reason why it would be different is because of the way the animation is set up. The animation includes shadows and light, which all animations include but it is different because of the way it uses the shadows and lights. This film uses the shadow and lights as an element to help them make the characters move. Other films uses shadows and light to make the animations seem more real feel which this films  characters already have that real person appeal.
